Simmer down people, Ariana Grande doesn’t actually hate America. She knows which side her donuts are glazed on.
A few things about Ariana Grande:
I don’t know her personally.
She has a gift in the form of her singing voice and is very talented.
She is an entertainer, not a role model.
While I believe that it is easy for those whose job it is to twist and spin things celebrities say and do in an effort to keep the machine we feed happy, Miss Grande’s choice of words pale in comparison to her actions. As a person who spent many years working in the service industry… one of my very first jobs as a fourteen year old was at Heidi’s Bakery, a long since gone donut shop in Running Springs, CA, I am especially sensitive to anyone acting rudely to a fellow human being who is serving them.
Clearly Miss Grande and her friend had no idea the security camera at Wolfee Donut’s was rolling and their super uncool, I-double-dog-hair-dare-you-to-lick-that-donut actions were being caught on tape… Which begs the question, WHO BOUGHT AND ATE THOSE DONUTS?!
I could not possibly care one teensy weensy bit less about Ariana Grande’s potty mouth. She is not, and will never be any kind of role model for my daughters. As a parent, it is important for me to teach my kids that these people are entertainers, period. We can separate our love of the music from the people, who are also human and make mistakes, especially the young ones we see growing up in the spotlight. Ariana Grande may be twenty-two years old, but she is still a child.
Do I believe she wrote that blah, blah, blah apology about being “frustrated” by the childhood obesity rate in this country? Nope. That’s what publicists are paid for. *Touche Ariana’s publicist, that was a nice try though.
If I were Ariana Grande, I would be headed back to Wolfee’s Donuts – privately – to sincerely apologize personally to the owner and worker and, perhaps, offer to sling donuts for a day to show a little self-deprecation and experience what it’s like to serve others. This, in my opinion, would be a win win for both.
What do you think?
Thanks for stopping by,
ox J.J.
